The Faculty of Medicine of McGill University invites applications for the position of:

DIRECTOR OF THE STEINBERG CENTRE FOR SIMULATION AND INTERACTIVE LEARNING

The Steinberg Centre for Simulation and Interactive Learning (SCSIL) is an interprofessional centre of excellence that uses medical simulation to enhance the skills of developing and practicing health care professionals. The Centre continuously strives to improve patient safety and quality of care through education, research, evaluation and innovation. The Centre combines training techniques from high-risk professions in aviation and emergency response with the latest medical simulation technologies.  Fully integrated into McGill's professional programs, the Centre provides the next generation of doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and speech-language pathologists with hands-on training in difficult and potentially dangerous procedures without risk to patients. It also serves as a resource for teaching foundational elements of the clinical method, basic procedural skills, and for promoting the importance of teamwork in health care delivery. The Centre is a focal point for research in the field of simulation-based health professions’ education with a mission to generate cutting-edge innovations and to engage the broader academic community.  The Centre adheres to and develops best practices in simulation-based education spanning technical and non-technical skills, inter professional team training, and systems evaluation. The Centre provides the essential link between the clinical and simulated environment, providing basic and advanced training and assessment. Finally, the Centre is the cornerstone in a rapidly developing network of simulation-based activity throughout the University and its affiliated hospitals.

The successful candidate is expected to:

  • Hold an academic position at the Associate or Full Professor level

  • Be energetic and influential with demonstrated leadership and organizational abilities in a multidisciplinary and interprofessional environment
  • Help lead in the development of a comprehensive approach to simulation, focused on educational innovation, across the McGill Academic Health Network
  • Create opportunities for expansion of the Centre as a laboratory where innovative ideas about education and clinical care can be developed and tested
  • Participate in the teaching mission of the Faculty of Medicine and the University

The successful applicant will be a member of the Contract Academic Staff group.
